Along The Jinotega Highway, Nicaragua

Jenataga_0219

As I traveled the Jinotega highway, the mountain views and valleys are incredible. The immense depth of the scenes are incredible. There is cloud cover every day. This allows for beautiful lighting. The biggest issue I have to deal with here is rain and strong winds. Therefore a high shutter speed is a necessity. As always it is a waiting game for the right conditions to happen. Today, tomorrow, who knows. To arrive at these sites I ride the local buses. When a site appears I jump off the bus. I do my work, then wait for the next bus appear and move on.

Well that is this it for this week.  So happy trails from Nicaragua.

The Jinotaga Highway

Jenataga_0241

I have finally got into some serious photography. After weeks of exploring by bus I have selected a number of locations to work with. This means getting off the buses at various locations to photograph. then wait for another bus to get on. This day was very windy. All the rock formations in Nicaragua are volcanic.

I came across the above location that consist of a jagged rock out cropping perched upon a high hill. I used my 70 to 200 lens to  create a close up with more detail of the rocks. There was a dark moving sky in the background. The sky was darkened even more when I processed the photo to enhance the rocks. The foreground trees have that windswept look to them. Thus enhancing the effect of what it was like that evening.

I will close now. So until next time happy trails.

It Hurts

Jenataga_0156

It Hurts

Been working all day

Kids to look after

When the darkness comes

The hurt always returns

I just can’t get

You off my mind

I am so tired of crying

So many emotions

Words have failed me

The pain of being cheated on

I gave you so much

Of my life

I never thought

I could be the other women

It sure hurts you know

What is it about her?

That I don’t have

You left me bitter

About love

But I got to let it be

Move on with my life

Strong Winds Are Blowing

SawpitBay3

This was an evening capture taking at Sawpit Bay, Lake Superior. The waves were four feet high. Heavy cloud cover with detail. A rock out cropping standing alone. I was set up in a small cove. I wanted enough detail in the waves to create the sense of motion. I made sure I had a small piece of shoreline on the left. Thus I was able to tie in the rock outcropping.

Well that is it for this week. Until next time happy trails.

Hotel Room Blues

MontrealRiver_4608

An interesting morning shot taken on the Montreal River just off Hwy 17. A combination of mist, color and the darker evergreens makes for interesting contrast.

Hotel Room Blues

I opened the door

To my hotel room

Beer in hand

Feeling the blues

I am all alone

No one to love

I don’t know when

The last time I was kissed

Even hugged, for that matter

I am stuck here

In this hotel room

Lonely and blue

Sipping on my beer

Feeling the blues

For love just lost

I hang my head

The tears falling

In that hotel room

I have asked myself

I don’t know how many times

As to what went wrong

I am now all alone

Without you at my side

It hurts to say

That you are gone

My Daughter

Flowers_0114

She will always be

My little girl

Her love for me

As big as the sky

A special person

In my life

We are alike

In heart and mind

We cry together

We laugh together

We are always there

For one another

She is still my little girl

Now all grown up

She is that special person

In my life

Mountain Sunset

Mountains_0076

Sitting on the deck of my cabin in Nicaragua. Early morning and late evening I sit and observe the cloud formation and lighting coming over the mountains. Just waiting for that right shot. Thus a few evenings past, a magic moment occurred. The big thing here is patience. As the above shot shows it finally occurred. Beautiful cloud formation. Awesome lighting and darkening landscape. All these ingredients created a beautiful photo.

Well that is it for now. So happy trails.

While exploring the shores of Lake Superior, I came across this location that was all rock. I had dark skies to eliminate the blown highlights. There for I was able to shoot straight through the crevice without concurring light problems. The stunted growth at the top of the photo broke up the predominately brownish color of the rocks. Lichen is always a nice addition to the scene being orange. Another magical location found on the shores of Lake Superior.

Well that is it for now. Happy Trails.

Hello Wind

Mountains_0019

You are blowing softly today

I feel you on my face

Like the caress of a loved one

You have come from far away

A breath of freshness

Hello trees

I hear you murmuring

Sounds like the one I love

Whispering in my ear

You are still standing

Though many have gone

Hello flowers

You brighten the forest

With your vibrant colors

Like a lady I once cherished

Hello stream

The sounds you make

As you journey through the forest

Gurgling and burbling carefree

To an unknown lake

Reminds me of my love

In happy moments

Hello sun ray

Filtering through the trees

You bring a ray of hope

For those who can’t cope

Of a long lost love

Cafe in Hand

_MG_9952-Edit

A cafe in hand

A chair beckons

A mountainous view

Off to the east

Darkening in the coming

Of the night

A refreshing cool breeze

Dispersing the day’s heat

The parrots have returned

To where ever they roost

The white plumed garza

Long since gone

The sky dark and threatening

Clouds a somber grey

A beam of light

Emerging from the clouds

To cast a golden ray

In a moment of glory

Over a rounded hill

As the clouds roll on

The light slowly fades

Darkness descends once again

The dogs gathered round

Their heads on paws

A kitten purring

Comfortably on my lap

Enjoying the cooling even

While I sip my cafe
