Mountain Fire

_MG_0778_4338

The winds were blowing out the North yesterday at a brisk pace. The town of Jinotega, Nicaragua is nestled down in a valley surrounded by the mountains. This event occurred on the Eastern side of Jinotega on the mountain slopes.

It is a common practice that occurs every year in March to set fires to burn the vegetation. It is a very dry time of year as you can see by the color of the grass. No homes were burnt.

AS a photo opportunity I saw some potential. Grabbing my camera I headed to a small hill. Jinotega is infested with wires crisscrossing the streets. So being on the hill eliminated that problem.  There is a gully running the side of the mountain here that gave some depth and a focal point. Three trees surrounded by smoke and fire on the edge of the gully add to the element of this composition. Then I added a few casa at the bottom to present a sense of danger. Will the wind shift to the East and send the fire roaring through the homes

The beauty Of A Composition

Banff_3627presets

An aimlessly drifting cloud. Early morning lighting. The patches of light highlight this composition . You can pick up on the patches of lighting going up the mountainside in two locations here. There is small detail here involving the morning light. Morning light is cool. Evening light is warm. A patch of shadow dominates the central of the composition. But there is detail available in that dark area along with the light touching certain elevated parts.

Sinclair Pass (el. 1,486 m or 4,875 ft) is a high mountain pass in Kootenay National Park between the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers to the northeast of present-day Radium Hot Springs in the province of British Columbia

So enjoy the beauty of this composition.

Clouds and Mountains

RockyMountains_4056

There is a unique feeling observing clouds below the mountain peaks. It gives you a whole different prospective of your surroundings. It means you have moved up the ladder higher in the sky. Maybe someday you could even walk in the clouds. Now that would be cool.

Look Up

Banff_3904a

I had just finished a couple hours photographing along the Minniwanka Lake shorelines. I was walking back to the car lot. I looked up to a magnificent view of a mountain peak.

The various layers of this mountain are well define. To compose this composition I used the roadside trees to guide your eyes to the main subject, the mountain peak.

Along The Logging Road

Rockyountains_3594

This is a view of St Mary’s Lake  BC. It is a view of the back end of the lake. My brother Bob and I turned on to a gravel logging road. The road climbed ‘higher and higher till we were traveling above St. Mary’s Lake. As is always the case on these roads, you are enclosed by trees on either side of you. When an open towards the lake appears, you can pull over and photograph.

Now here we have a scene of tremendous depth. The valley between the mountains goes to infinity. The shadows are deep. Beautiful clouds to fill the background.

Bow Lake Area

This composition was a creation from the South end of Bow Lake. You can see what I believe is a glacier. My brother will correct me on that. But what ever it is it sure stands out.

PEYTO LAKE BANFF NATIONAL PARK

banff_3733

My brother Bob parked the car in the crowded parking lot at the entrance to Payto Lake.

Gathering our gear, we were soon on our way. The first thing I noticed was the large crowd of Chinese tourists. Where ever we went they were there. We picked up the Peyto Lake trail. There was snow in the bush here. Hmmm, interesting. We made our way along the trail, passing out coming tourist along the way. We finally arrived at the viewing platform. The photo above was one of my many creations here.

Bow Lake Area

Bow Lake area in British Columbia. This was open land that was a beautiful yellow orange color. The new growth of evergreens slowly creeping along. This is Nature at work. Then the mountains in the background.
