Thats Who I Am

Jinitaga_0275

When I look in the mirror

I see a man at peace

With his world

I left behind

Bittersweet memories

But I guess that’s who I am

My heart at times is cold

But girl, you’re the one

To whom my heart belongs

As the days slip by

You slowly melt my heart

But I guess that’s who I am

Standing on the mountain

I hear your love

On the wind

I watch the clouds sail by

Ships upon the sea

But I guess that’s who I am

But my heart is restless

I need you to tame it

Look in the mirror

You will see who I am

But I am all yours to have

But I guess that’s who I am

When I look in the mirror

I see a man at peace

With his world

I left behind

Bittersweet memories

But I guess that’s who I am

Mountain Grandeur

Jinitaga_0271

As I travel the highway between Matagalpa and Jinotaga, I can not help but admire the grandeur of the mountains. there is so much depth in the scenes. The creation of shadows by ever present clouds. Now being the dry season the colours are subdued, but at the same time great contrast. The depth of the valleys to the mountain peaks are there before your eyes.

that is it for now. i leave for Granada, Nicaragua in the morning. Happy trails.

The Long Road Home

SaRamonTurnoff_0295

As I drive through the night

On a lonely highway

A soft rain is fallen

The night is dark

No traffic in sight

The thoughts of home

Fills my mind

Tis a long way home

Back to my love

Music is playing softly

On the radio

The night is empty

The cool night air refreshing

The thoughts of my

Family sound asleep

Of a lady waiting for me

Tis a long way home

Back to my love

The miles fly by

On this lonely highway

I long for the comfort

Of my lady’s arms

To sleep through the night

The softness of her breathing

Relaxing to me

Tis a Long way home

Back to my lady

A truck stop appears ahead

Lights glowing through the rain

A drive through beckons

A cup of coffee

For the long drive

In the darkness of night

Tis a Long way home

Back to my love

Sipping on my coffee

A feeling of longing

Invades my thoughts

The road now climbing

Into the mountains

Will not be long now

Tis a long way home

Back to my love

Sheet lightning shimmering

From far away

As I enter the mountains

Winding my way higher

The storm fast approaching

I’ll soon be home

With my loving wife

Tis a Long way home

Back to my love

Dazzling light splits the sky

The dull rumble of thunder

A few moments later

As the road climbs higher

The storm now upon me

The roll of thunder now louder

The warmth of home near

Tis a Long way home

Back to my love

The dark ridges outlined

In the dazzling light

A cabin momentarily seen

Home at last

As I turn into the driveway

A dash to the door

As the thunder rolls

Tis a Long way home

Back to my love

There to meet me

Is my dear beloved

A warm smile and hug

Welcome home darling

Tis a Long way home

Back to my love

Breakfast is on the stove

Coffee perking away

A warm smile and hug

Welcome home darling

Children not yet awake

The storm has passed

There is a light shining

Over the mountains

Tis a Long way home

Back to my love

Along The Jinotega Highway, Nicaragua

Jenataga_0219

As I traveled the Jinotega highway, the mountain views and valleys are incredible. The immense depth of the scenes are incredible. There is cloud cover every day. This allows for beautiful lighting. The biggest issue I have to deal with here is rain and strong winds. Therefore a high shutter speed is a necessity. As always it is a waiting game for the right conditions to happen. Today, tomorrow, who knows. To arrive at these sites I ride the local buses. When a site appears I jump off the bus. I do my work, then wait for the next bus appear and move on.

Well that is this it for this week.  So happy trails from Nicaragua.

My Daughter

Flowers_0114

She will always be

My little girl

Her love for me

As big as the sky

A special person

In my life

We are alike

In heart and mind

We cry together

We laugh together

We are always there

For one another

She is still my little girl

Now all grown up

She is that special person

In my life

Mountain Sunset

Mountains_0076

Sitting on the deck of my cabin in Nicaragua. Early morning and late evening I sit and observe the cloud formation and lighting coming over the mountains. Just waiting for that right shot. Thus a few evenings past, a magic moment occurred. The big thing here is patience. As the above shot shows it finally occurred. Beautiful cloud formation. Awesome lighting and darkening landscape. All these ingredients created a beautiful photo.

Well that is it for now. So happy trails.

Cafe in Hand

_MG_9952-Edit

A cafe in hand

A chair beckons

A mountainous view

Off to the east

Darkening in the coming

Of the night

A refreshing cool breeze

Dispersing the day’s heat

The parrots have returned

To where ever they roost

The white plumed garza

Long since gone

The sky dark and threatening

Clouds a somber grey

A beam of light

Emerging from the clouds

To cast a golden ray

In a moment of glory

Over a rounded hill

As the clouds roll on

The light slowly fades

Darkness descends once again

The dogs gathered round

Their heads on paws

A kitten purring

Comfortably on my lap

Enjoying the cooling even

While I sip my cafe

Going Up The Mountain

_MG_9956

I slowly open my eyes

To the coming of morning

Sunlight streaming through the window

Dust mites dancing in the sunbeam

I put on my ole blue jeans

Stepping out into the morning

Hey, it’s a beautiful morning

Going up the mountain

Packsack slung over my shoulder

Stepping off the porch

With a jaunty stride

I make my way

To the nearby road

The mountain beckons in the distance

Hey, it’s a beautiful morning

Going up the mountain

Kitchen smoke is rising

From the local’s homes

As I walk the road

Plenty of smiles welcome me

As men and women pass me by

Jugs on their shoulders

Or pails in hand

Children with shy smiles

Playing on the road

Hey, it’s a beautiful morning

Going up the mountain

At roads end a trail beckons

Leading me to the river ford

The trail winds up the hillside

Emerging from the forest

The trail levels out

To a field of maze

Not yet ready to harvest

I travel the trail

Walking the fields edge

Hey, it’s a beautiful morning

Going up the mountain

The morning sun becoming warmer

As the trail goes higher

Reaching the next plateau

My route becoming harder

A herd of Granada step aside

As I pass on by

Barb wire fencing block my way

Tossing my backpack over the fence

I scramble on hands and knees

Under the barb wire fence

Grabbing my packsack, I move on

Hey, it’s a beautiful morning

Going up the mountain

The summit is near

The path becoming steeper

There is now a cool breeze

I make my way to an outcropping

To sit and observe

A land that is far-reaching

As far as the eye can see

Mountains tall in the distance

Clouds roaming over the mountains

Mist from the valley

I feel that mountain breeze

Hey, it’s a beautiful morning

Going up the mountain

There is something about

This mountainous country

Of mountains towering overhead

Highlands dot the landscape

Deep valleys slash the land

Mountains are like giants

I like a blade of grass

It is a humble feeling

Hey, it’s a beautiful morning

Going up the mountain

A Memory of You

_MG_9971

Sitting under the maple tree

The stars glittering through

The canopy of leaves

The moonlight awash over the valley

Every night I dream of you

Knowing you will never be there

Your face is slowly fading

Just a memory to remember

I think of you

I long for you

My eyes fill with tears

My heart is still aching

It is all I got

It is all I have

Is a memory of you

My cheeks tingle in sensation

Of a hand brushing my cheeks

Of the cool evening wind

It was two years past

On a cold November day

I lost control of the vehicle

On the black ice

When I looked at you

I knew you were gone

Holding you in my arms

For the last time

I think of you

I long for you

My eyes fill with tears

My heart is still aching

It is all I got

It is all I have

Is a memory of you

Standing by your grave

I wished you farewell

Tears falling freely

Thinking of our time together

Left a rose for you

A favourite of yours

A mist has covered

The valley before me

With the approaching dawn

The stars becoming faint

Like the memory of you

I think of you

I long for you

My eyes fill with tears

My heart is still aching

It is all I got

It is all I have

Is a memory of you

Hurry the Dawn

Hurray Dawn

A storm is raging

In the darkness of night

My mind is adrift

In the seas of time

Looking for a port of call

My body is restless

Like the surging winds

My heart is aching

As I lie alone

In my rumpled bed

Hurry the dawn

My shoulders are heavy

With the burden of life

My eyes are moist

As the rain patters

On the roof top

The sound of thunder

Echoing in the mountains

The flash of lightning

Illuminates the room

Casting eerie shadows on the walls

Darkness returns as the storm rages

I am a lonely man

Hurry the dawn

Rising in the dawn

The storm has abated

To step outside

The patter of rain is faint

On the rustling leaves

Blending with the subdued rustle

The forest whispering to itself

The dawn has come reluctantly

Glowing sullen through

A dark cloudy sky

A beam of light

Pierces the morning sky

Bringing forth a ray of hope

The mind has cleared

The body in repose

The beauty of the land

Hurry the dawn
