This an interesting photo that defines The colored streaks on the mountain side. My guess is that the line patterns are the result of avalanches over the years. Now with the sun low in the evening. The foreground is darker than the mountain top. The warm sun is highlighting the exposed rock created by the avalanche.
The evening was getting quite late. I came to a sharp bend in the highway. The mountains were glowing from the setting sun, I quickly set up the camera and tripod. I was able to capture this scene.
Five kilometres in length,The Steeples form the southern end of the Hughes Range that lies to the east of the Kootenay Valley from east of Columbia Lake to the Bull River that enters the Kootenay at the town of Bull River.
I was standing up on a hill looking into this river valley. A railway track to the left. The river flowing past. The foreground lit by the sun. The mountain darkening.
Evening has come. The lighting is soft. The fields are dry. No rain.
It was marvelous to look across the field towards the mountains, the West Kootenay Mountains near Cranbrook BC
I was driving home on HWY 95, North of Fort Steele. I stopped at a rest area. The Kootenay River flowed here. I picked up a trail along the banks of the river and explored.
The evening was late. The clouds were heavy. Then all of a sudden the forest was aglow in a wash of light, The mountains in shadow to the left. A touch of color in the sky.
The river continues its journey.
#Fisher Peak at an elevation of 9200 feet in the #Rocky #Mountains is a dominant feature near #Cranbrook #Evening #BC. The late evening sun created this warm yellow glow.
My next stop was between Matagalpa and San Ramon turn off. There is a selection of hills and rocks to work with. Arriving by bus I disembarked at this turn off. Always busy here with local police active at the turn off. This is the time of year when the coffee beans are being picked locally. Therefore anyone coming with a load of coffee beans is pulled over and checked.
When I arrived late afternoon the clouds were heavy. The sun going down. The wind as usual was blowing pretty good. Therefore I was not able to capture low lighting scenes. But I did manage to capture the above scene of this unique hill with a dab of light striking the peak.
That is it for this week. Happy trails.
A cafe in hand
A chair beckons
A mountainous view
Off to the east
Darkening in the coming
Of the night
A refreshing cool breeze
Dispersing the day’s heat
The parrots have returned
To where ever they roost
The white plumed garza
Long since gone
The sky dark and threatening
Clouds a somber grey
A beam of light
Emerging from the clouds
To cast a golden ray
In a moment of glory
Over a rounded hill
As the clouds roll on
The light slowly fades
Darkness descends once again
The dogs gathered round
Their heads on paws
A kitten purring
Comfortably on my lap
Enjoying the cooling even
While I sip my cafe
My exploration of Lake Superior revealed many hidden little coves, unique rock structures that have personality. It is with wonder when one comes across a scene such as above. The growth of small evergreens and stunted cedar clinging for life on the protruding rocks. The smear of lichen covering the rock faces. The shape of the rocks that are volcanic in nature. The dark clouds overhead bringing out the detail of the rocks. Just to sit down and admire the scene before you is in itself a great experience. What you see is the work of nature over thousands of years creating a piece of artwork that is forever evolving.
Thank you for stopping by. Until next time happy trails
