I combined the two trunks of a Birch tree with the yellow, red and green leaves to create this composition.

Getting In Tight
The flow of water. Unique rock structure with strong earth colors. Ferns turning a rusty red in the bottom left. Touch of red from a Maple shrub in bottom right corner. This all adds up to a beautiful composition. I came across this scene on my Fall trip to Chutes Provincial Park, just North of Massey, Ontario. As a matter of fact, I first discovered it on my original trip along this stretch of the Aux Sable River a few years back. The passing of time alters a scene.
This is a very tight composition. It allows for more creativity. You have water flowing in, then flowing out at bottom right. I maintained my f22 with shutter speeds set at 1.3 sec. This allowed me to capture detail in the water. That is very important to me as I like water to have character and life.

This is a very beautiful location. The water is turquoise blue. There are a series of waterfalls in an approximately half mile of river. It is located North of Sudbury, Ontario in the Wolf Mountain, Wolf Lake locality. If you are looking for an unique composition to hang on your wall, this could be it.

A Tight Composition
Last Fall I spent a couple of evenings looking for compositions of Birch Trees and Red Maple leaves. In previous posts you will come across the Birch and Maple theme. The Birch Trees have marvellous texture on their trunks. So this time I decided to find something that I could do up close. Strolling through a grove of Birch Trees I came across the above composition. I set up the Canon EOS 7D on the tripod for a vertical shot. There was a blackish piece on the white trunk where maybe at one time there had been a branch. It formed a V shape. Using this as a focal point and the red Maple leaves surrounding it, a composition was created.

A Touch of Color
Winter is here in my part of the country. It is nice to sit back and go through my photos taken during this year’s trips. I selected the above photo from a trip into O S A Lake, Killarney Provincial Park. Paul Smith and I were sitting around the campsite one afternoon. It was a cloudy wet day if I recall. The wind was blowing a bit. We were talking about the Maple tree mixed in with the White Pine trees at our campsite. I decided then that I would attempt a composition of the colored leaves. There was one branch of orange, red leaves that crossed in front of a Pine trunk. I showed enough rock to break up the contrast. The rock had enough scattered reddish pine needles on its surface to add more color. There is some green color from the White Pine branches to create a more compact photo. Then there is the texture of the tree trunks that adds detail.
After setting up and getting the composition that I liked, it was a matter of waiting for the right moment for the wind to calm down. Well that is it for now. So until next time happy trails

Fall Colors
The Fall colors are now upon us in Northern Ontario.But it is a mix bag of colors.The Birch trees are half bare now.This is due to the very dry summer we had.Some areas are heavy in color while other parts of the country still has a lot of green.
Not far from where I live,the Vermillion River flows, where I have had many photographic opportunities in the past years.There is a good selection of Maples to be found.
I came across this small Maple tucked into a small cove on the Vermillion River.The Red leaves were brilliant and dense.With that as my main focal point and making use of the blackish rocks for added contrast I composed the above composition.You will noticed that I have kept tight to the shoreline as much as possible.It is on the busy side but it will still work.In the background is more color.Also of note is I took the above photo at daybreak.
It has been a mix bag here for weather lately.Lots of rain and very windy at times.It seems that early morning has been my time to photograph.The wind has not calmed down at all most evenings.
